Sunday 5th February 2012: Third before Lent God Save the Queen!Today we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, who succeeded her father as monarch on this day in 1952. During the service we will commemorate her long service to this country, and we look forward to further celebrations of the Diamond Jubilee in June. Lent Draws Near"No sooner is Christmas over than we begin our planning for Lent, Holy Week and Easter. This all starts with Shrove Tuesday, we begin our austere period of Lent by being 'shriven'. In our parishes we observe this with the age old tradition of using up our flour and eggs and making and eating pancakes! We further relieve ourselves of small amounts of surplus cash, whilst having a good time playing Bingo; such fun! Then the following day, and to more serious matters, Ash Wednesday. The Eucharist will be said at 0730, 1200 (BCP) and 1900 at St George's. Each Eucharist will include the traditional ceremony of 'ashing' being signed with ash on our forehead. Andrew is planning some very special music for the evening service. Details of the other Lenten services and the United Tuesday course are printed below, please note the dates and attend as much as you are able" - Fr Michael Dates for Lent, Holy Week and EasterTuesday 21 February7pm - Pancake Party and Bingo, St George's Wednesday 22 February - Ash WednesdayEucharists at 7.30am, 12pm and 7pm, with meditation from 10.30am, St George's Sunday 18 March - Mothering Sunday(usual service times) Sunday 1 April - Palm Sunday(usual service times) Thursday 5 April, 8pm - Maundy ThursdayLiturgy and Watch, St George's Friday 6 April - Good Friday, at St George's10am Children's Stations, 12pm Liturgy of the Cross 3pm Stations of the Cross, 6pm Stainer's 'Crucifixion' Saturday 7 April8pm - Vigil and Eucharist, St George's Sunday 8 April - Easter Day(usual service times) United Tuesdays in Lent - God in Public Life.Hopefully you have picked up a programme - if not do so today, and perhaps hand one to a friend too.
